The Continuing Mutilation of Mt. Houston

John P. Bridge     May 5, 2001                                           Back                Home

Hi again, folks.  To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the anniversary of the Mexicans having kicked the butts of the French at Puebla back in the 19th Century, I was taking a ceremonial drive near the area where Mt. Houston is located, and guess what I saw.  Yeah, more digging equipment and dump trucks hauling more of Mt. Houston away.  Don't know how long it's gone on this time, but a sizable chunk has been removed -- I'd say nearly a third of what was there the last time I alerted you to the problem.

Above, you can see what's left of what was once a majestic peak, and at right you can see the carnage that has transpired recently.  Looks like the person running the digger is assaulting Mt. Houston from all angles.  As far as I'm concerned no punishment is too severe for a person such as this.  In fact, exiling the s.o.b. to New York even seems reasonable.

It's all so distressing.  I must admit there hasn't been much response to my quest for help.  A few people around the country have expressed concern, but they're all too far away to really do any good.  Oh yeah, and one guy from Longview, Texas, wrote and told me he didn't even believe Mt. Houston exists.  He thinks it's all a hoax.  Can you imagine that?

I can only see one positive aspect to the recent development.  It will take fewer people to form a human chain around Mt. Houston's base.  We could probably get by with, say, 150 people right now and fewer, of course, if someone doesn't put a stop to the defilement immediately.

Folks, I'm desperate, and this will be my final plea.  Please send an email to mountain@johnbridge.com and become a member of the Save Mt. Houston Campaign.  Better yet, send donations direct to John Bridge in care of this site.  Cash is preferred, but checks are acceptable.  It'll take thousands of dollars to, first of all, stop the carnage, and then begin the restoration.  I promise you all the money will be well spent.

Thanks in advance for your generosity.
